Essay Contest to Recognize Extraordinary Efforts

Essay Contest CAMPBELL’S LABELS FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM TO SALUTE “SOUPER” PARENTS

Camden, NJ, August 10, 2005—Do you know a “SOUPer Parent?” Campbell’s® Labels for Education™ program is looking to recognize the extraordinary efforts and dedication of parents across the country as part of its “SOUPer Parents” program. “SOUPer Parents” will be nominated through an essay contest conducted nationally and a winner will be selected in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states.

“There are so many parents who go above and beyond for their child’s classroom and school,” said Anne Pizarro, Director, Campbell’s Labels for Education program. “The SOUPer Parent program provides an opportunity for Labels for Education to honor those who make the extra effort and are committed to improving the educational experience.”

Serving as an ambassador for Labels for Education and the “SOUPer Parent” program is teen soccer sensation, Freddy Adu. For the past two years, he has been a forward for D.C. United, the 2004 MLS Cup Champion, and during that time, became the youngest player to ever appear in a Major League Soccer game. He joins Olympic gold medalist figure skater Sarah Hughes as Labels for Education program ambassadors.

“My mom has been my No. 1 fan, providing me with the support that has led to my success as a young professional athlete,” said Freddy Adu. “I am excited and honored to be a spokesperson for Labels for Education and to be a part of the “SOUPer Parents” program that is honoring parents like my mother that helped build a better future for me.”

To enter the “SOUPer Parent” contest, write an essay of 200 words (maximum) on the topic “Tell us about your classroom SOUPer Parent.” The person nominated in each winning essay will be awarded a 10,000 Labels for Education bonus certificate to be given to the school of their choice.

To nominate a “SOUPer Parent,” the submitter of the essay must be a resident of the United States or the District of Columbia and be 13 years of age or older. Nominees for the “SOUPer Parent” contest must have school aged children (ages 3-18). The contest begins on August 5, 2005 and ends on November 30, 2005. For an official entry form and complete contest rules, visit Labels for Education web site.

Essays will be judged according to the following criteria: passion, impact of the nominee’s actions and appropriateness to sponsor. The winners will be selected by a panel of independent judges, under the supervision of Marden Kane and representatives of the Campbell Soup Company.
