YMCAs Nationwide Will Welcome More Than 500,000 Kids and Families
for 16th Annual Event - Celebrations at more than 1,500 YMCAs nationwide
YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a free, fun-filled day of activities designed to
encourage kids and their families to stay active, connected and healthy. The
theme of YMCA Healthy Kids Day is "Put Play In Your Day," and the annual
event celebrates making fitness fun while introducing kids to an array of
YMCA programs that teach healthy behaviors and healthy ways to
play-essential lessons that can lead to a lifetime of good health.
YMCA Healthy Kids Day is part of YMCA Activate America(tm), a national
initiative that is rallying YMCAs across the country to further enhance
their service and support to kids, adults and families who want to lead a
healthy lifestyle but struggle to do so. With nine million U.S. children
overweight, increasing physical activity among kids is a critical component
of this country's efforts to fight childhood obesity. Serving more than 20
million members, almost half of whom are under the age of 18, America's
YMCAs are ideally positioned to help kids and families across the country
improve their health and quality of life. All are welcome at their
neighborhood YMCA, regardless of age, physical ability or income.
YMCA Healthy Kids Day activities vary by YMCA and may include games, sports,
health screenings and more. A list of participating YMCAs is available at
www.ymca.net .
