Fly Fishing

Fly fishing "Kids can really pick up on fly casting much faster than many adults." says Ian Scott Fly Fishing expert.

Fly fishing sounds complicated but Ian assured me it is no more difficult to provide the basic skills of fly casting than it is to show them how to plunk a worm without tangling lines.

With just a little bit of guidance, kids can become very proficient tiers and fly anglers, says Ian.

Ian offers resources on Fly Tying and Fly Reels on his site.

12-year-old Alex Scott, Ian's eldest son, shares his first experience fly fishing with his dad: I'm Hooked For Life, Dad.

To learn more about fly fishing, tying and equipment Ian has excellent resources in the Beginner's Corner.

You'll need a good pair of high rubber boots, or waders, a basic fly rod and reel to get started, some flys and an adult who's willing to help you get started.

Always use caution when near or in water. Young kids should wear a life jacket, while all kids should take swimming lessons prior to going near the water.

Enjoy summer - get out and do some fishing!
