Techno Source Loteria

Loteria, a Bingo-Style Game of Chance, to Be Featured at The American International Toy Fair - Techno Source Booth #3137

NEW YORK, NY - February 12, 2012 - Toy innovator Techno Source, a division of LF Products, in partnership with FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME), is bringing Loteria, Mexico's most popular family board game, to the United States. Sold for more than 200 years, Loteria is a classic bingo-style game of chance that uses colorful, iconic images of Mexican culture on playing cards instead of numbers on ping pong balls. The game, which will be featured at the American International Toy Fair in New York City this week February 12th -15th, 2012 (Techno Source booth #3137), will be available for purchase at mass and specialty retailers in spring 2012.

"Loteria is one of the most important and beloved games in Latin America," said Eric Levin, Division Head, Techno Source. "It transcends generations and cultures with its simple and exciting game play that appeals to kids, adults and families. We are so pleased to be able to bring this best-selling game to its fans here in the United States."

"We are excited to work with Techno Source to bring the Loteria family board game with its deep cultural roots and recognizable imagery to families in the United States," said Naz Cuevas, Sr. Manager of Consumer Products, FME. "We expect this historic bi-lingual game to resonate particularly with young Hispanics, the fastest growing segment in the U.S. with more than 44 million people."

How to Play: To start, each player chooses a tabla, a game board with a random 4x4 grid of authentic Loteria images. One player is selected as the caller. To play, the caller draws a card from the deck and announces the image on the card to the players; for example, "El Gallo" or "The Rooster." Players with the matching image on their tablas mark it with a game chip.

Similar to bingo, the first player with four chips in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal row; squared pattern (any four chips that make up a square anywhere on the game board); or four corners shouts "Loteria!" to win. The game includes 10 tablas, 54 Loteria cards featuring images with rich cultural history, 80 Loteria game chips, and a playing card key that allows players to learn Spanish and English through play. For 2 to 10 players. Average play time: 15-20 minutes. Appropriate for players ages 6 and up. MSRP: $5.99.

Originating in Italy in the 1400s, Loteria was a hobby game commonly played among the Italian upper class. This popular game of chance with its bingo style game play and decorative cards was brought to New Spain (Mexico) in 1769. By the late 1800s, Loteria, Spanish for the word "lottery," became a tradition at Mexican affairs. Generations of play along with the game's distinctive card iconography and associated riddles made Loteria symbolic with Mexican culture.
