FIND IT® GAMES' ON THE FARM, STARRY NIGHTS & PIECES OF HISTORY HERALDED 7 TIMES BY JUDGES
Spring 2012 Contests - Dr. Toy, Father's Day Mr. Dad & Great Dad Recommends, Parents' Choice & Tillywig - Fancy Everything At Find It!
Snohomish, WA (June 11, 12) - Wouldn't life be simplified if you could find everything you want in one spot? That's the combined feeling by four diverse toy industry competitions - Dr. Toy, Father's Day Mr. Dad & Great Dad Recommends, Parents' Choice Foundation & Tillywig - who each tapped Find It Games a total of 7 times this season as the go-to company to find outstanding children's products.
Find It, admired for its colorful contained adventures, branched out into puzzles this year with a focus on history. All three of their 2012 products - cylinder On The Farm, star shaped Starry Night and puzzle series Pieces of History - wowed four toy industry competitions that were looking for excellence of a different criteria ranging from father-friendly to best vacation toy!
On The Farm was a triple winner with praise from three distinct competitions: fun-comes-first Tillywig Toy Awards; sharpen young minds, not blunt them Parents' Choice Foundation and portable games Dr. Toy Best Vacation Children's Products 2012. Wrote one Tillywig judge after tapping the toy for its Best Family Fun award, "On The Farm will keep your hands moving and your eyes sharp as you race - twist, turn, shake, nudge, jostle - whatever it takes to bring those hidden items into sight. The 'learn as you play' element was really evident (so that's what a tiller looks like!) throughout the action."
The seven spring 2012 awards given to Find It include:
Pieces of History Puzzles * $13 * Ages 8+
Choose one or all three puzzles: Pharaoh's Egypt * On Dry Ground * The Parade of Animals
Parents' Choice Foundation Approved Award * Spring 2012 Puzzles category
Father's Day 2012 Mr. Dad & Great Dad Recommends * Toddler & Preschooler category
A Parents' Choice Foundation reviewer jotted these thoughts:
"The puzzles did not disappoint our reviewers and their kids. These are perfect for kids who love puzzles and "I Spy" types of games. The Pieces of History Puzzle brings the two challenges together. Each puzzle depicts a detailed scene from a historical era. The puzzle is set up so that the border itself is the "key". Once the border is put together, you can see the items that you will need to find in the puzzle. In the Egypt puzzle, these items include a necklace, a crown, a leopard, amulets, and more. The puzzle will get kids talking about history as well as the animals and objects present in each setting represented. Along with the puzzle comes a vibrant, color print-out of all of the items depicted in the puzzle border. Each item is paired with
a description that gives its cultural context. Parents liked that the puzzles foster an inquisitive mindset in kids, who actually learned something while exercising their brain in solving the puzzle at the same time."
The guys at Mr. Dad & Great Dad Recommends shared these thoughts:
"We've always liked the Find-It games, an assortment of canisters containing objects hidden in a sea of plastic beans. Now they have introduced a new series of traditional puzzles, Pieces of History, including Pharaoh's Egypt, Parade of Animals, and Dry Ground. Each has 300 pieces, and within the final image, you can find "hidden" objects that are also found in the border of the puzzle. In Pharaoh's Egypt, for example, you'll discover a leopard in a tree, a blue hippo in a market basket, and 38 more hidden objects and animals. This kind of puzzle, played together, can open up conversations about historical times and shared discovery."
On The Farm * $23 * Ages 8+
Parents' Choice Foundation Approved * Spring 2012 Games category
Dr. Toy's Best Vacation Children's Product for 2012
Tillywig Toy Awards * Best Family Fun Award Winner
A Parents' Choice Foundation judge:
"Don't underestimate the appeal of this funny, silo-shaped toy. Kids loved playing with this little game. It is a clear container filled with what looks like ice cream sprinkles, and hidden in the sprinkles are various things you would find on a farm. These range from animals to wheelbarrows to barbed wire. The recommended age is 8 and up, but children as young as five all joined in to find the items on the list. After the initial excitement wore off, our parent testers crafted games involving the toy to get kids interested in it again. It might not be a toy for everyday play, but it will help pass the time during car rides and long waits."
Dr. Toy agreed this would be the perfect vacation item for road trips and waits in line:
"Like all Find It hidden object games, this game provides hours of fun for all generations. Use the enclosed score pad to check off items as kids, babysitters, parents and grandparents find a chicken, a tractor, a scarecrow, or a milk jug."
Starry Night * $22.00 * Ages 8+
Parents' Choice Foundation Approved * Spring 2012 Toys category
Tillywig Toy Awards * Best Family Fun Award Winner
A Parents' Choice Foundation judge jotted down these observations:
"Starry Night is a fun game that can be taken anywhere. The Find It game includes a large plastic star that is filled with small beads and 28 glow-in-the-dark items hidden among the beads. As you shake the star, the beads move around and different items surface. It also comes with scorecards for children to keep track of which items they find. The star is easily portable and makes a wonderful toy for car rides. In addition, it is appropriate for children of all ages. With each shake, new items emerge, which allows even the youngest child to be successful in finding items. However, with 40 items to find, it will keep older children entertained as well. Our testers (aged 6-45) have played with this many times and have not yet found all of the items, which demonstrates the long term playability of this toy. We love this for long car rides; it keeps the kids entertained for long periods of time."
Added a Tillywig Toy reviewer who gave the toy two thumbs up for family play:
"Rotating, inverting, and gently jostling the container will reveal many things. Starry Night is great fun whether played alone or in a group, making it a perfect family game. Score pads listing all the items enable players to keep track of treasures by checking them off as they are found. The game is excellent for promoting focus and concentration, and the combined visual-tactile element makes it powerfully engaging for players of all ages."
The Mr. Dad Seal of Approval and the GreatDad Recommends program recognize products and services that support their mission of giving men the resources, tools, and information they need to be the fathers they want to be and that their families need them to be.
Parents' Choice Foundation recommends toys with staying power, books with honesty and integrity of characters, illustration of elegance and imagination, music that families can sing together, storytelling that teaches us lessons from lands and cultures close and far away, magazines that do not mask editorial content in advertising, television that teaches with civility and not chaos, and software and videogames that encourage sharpening skills not leveling landscapes.
Each year, the Tillywig Toy Awards delivers to consumers, retailers, and the media the best new toys, games, and other products available in the United States. In addition to the evaluation of products, the Tillywig program also awards a small number of retail stores each year for their ongoing contributions to promoting high quality, innovative new products. Product awards are given on the basis of group play tests, the primary purpose of which is evaluating the entertainment and/or educational value of the products submitted.
