New York's Books of Wonder Event and Luxury U.S. Retail Deal
(June 12, 2012 - Toronto, Canada)- (Virtual Press Office) - The 80th anniversary celebrations continue for Babar the elephant this year as Nelvana Enterprises and The Clifford Ross Company announce that Babar will be the featured property for the month of November 2012 at New York City's famous Books of Wonder, the city's premiere independent children's bookstore.

Vintage Babar will also be the focus for Holiday 2012 with a major luxury U.S. retailer including YOTTOY plush in-store and online, a Holiday window presence and special in-store activities. More details on this exciting initiative will be announced in the coming months!

In November, the entire Books of Wonder store at 18 West 18th Street will feature Vintage Babar branding, as well as a dedicated gallery space which will exhibit rare works of original and limited edition Babar artwork; exclusive merchandise within dedicated Babar in-store boutiques; multiple book readings and special in-store events throughout the month, all in celebration of Babar's 80th anniversary.

"We are very excited to have Books of Wonder onboard as a key retail and promotional partner for the Babar 80th Anniversary celebration," said Andrew Kerr, Head of Consumer Products for The Americas and Australasia, Nelvana Enterprises. "They are the ideal host for our month-long festivities in November 2012, and will ensure that the celebration has a wonderful home in the heart of New York City.'

"Books of Wonder is thrilled to participate in the celebration of Babar's 80th Anniversary. There are few characters in children's picture books who have had as lasting and positive an impact upon children around the world as Babar. Here's to 80 years more of his adventures!" said Peter Glassman, Founder and Owner, Books of Wonder.

The legend of Babar, known for his famous green suit and red tie, began when Cécile de Brunhoff invented a bedtime story for her sons: a tale of a little elephant living in the jungle whose mother was killed by a hunter. Her husband, Jean de Brunhoff, saw how enraptured their sons were by the story, and decided to create an illustrated book about it and name the elephant "Babar." Their son, Laurent, began illustrating the books after Jean's passing. The first Babar book was published in 1931 by Editions du Jardin des Modes. Hachette Jeunesse added Babar to its catalogue in 1936, and, to date, over 75 books have been published in 27 different languages with more than 13 million copies sold worldwide.

Last year, Abrams Books for Young Readers released the latest book from Laurent de Brunhoff, Babar's Celesteville Games and has reissued his classic Babar books in a new format as the 80th anniversary celebrations continue.

The books were adapted into an animated TV show, with the latest CG series, Babar and the Adventures of Badou, chronicling the adventures of Babar and his grandson Badou, broadcasting to rave reviews around the globe. The series is a Canada-France co-production from the Nelvana Studio and TeamTO, in association with The Clifford Ross Company and TF1.

Books of Wonder is New York City's oldest and largest independent children's bookstore, as well as the city's leading specialist in children's literature both new and old. Whether you're looking for the newest books just published, classics from your own childhood, or old, rare, and out-of-print editions, Books of Wonder is your source for the very finest in children's books.
